What is Citadel?
A simple introduction to Citadel and what it can manage for you.
Citadel is a self-hosted web application for managing Docker. It shows what is running, lets you deploy containers and Compose stacks, and helps you operate Docker Standalone and Swarm from one place.
What can I do with it?
- See containers, images, volumes, networks, logs, and resource usage.
- Deploy a container or a multi-service Compose stack.
- Manage Docker Swarm Nodes, Services, Tasks, Configs, and Secrets.
- Pull from registries or build images from Git repositories.
- Check for updates and control when workloads are redeployed.
- Run backups, alerts, webhooks, and scheduled automations.
- Give other users only the access they need.
Docker still runs your workloads. Citadel gives you a clearer place to configure, inspect, and operate them.
Find the right guide
- Quick start: install locally and run an example.
- Resources: configuration and everyday operations for each resource.
- Guides: access, shared configuration, and integrations.
- Terms used in Citadel: meanings of the names in the interface.
- Troubleshooting: checks to make when something fails.
How does it work?
Citadel Core hosts the web interface and stores your configuration. It can manage Docker on the same machine through the Docker socket. To manage another machine, connect a Citadel Agent or Edge Agent from the platform form.
You do not need an Agent for the first local setup.
